The Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Akwa Ibom State has expressed reservations over efforts by the Federal and Akwa Ibom State governments to secure the release of Corps members of Akwa Ibom origin, kidnapped in Zamfara on their way to Sokoto for their orientation three months ago.

The Civil Liberties Organization raised its concerns in a statement signed by the State Chairman, Godknows Njoku, the Vice Chairman,
Eridiong Obong and the Assistant Secretary, Idorenyin Sampson.

The CLO lamented that despite the corps members being three months in captivity, the federal and Akwa Ibom State government were yet to secure the release of the victims who were on their way to serve the country.

The group insisted that the government has the capacity to secure the release of the corp members if they wish to do so.

It called on the government at all levels to expedite action on the release of the Corp members as well as improve the security architecture in the country to protect the lives and properties of Nigerian citizens and foreign nationals.

The statement said, โ€œCLO expresses dissatisfaction with the unimpressive efforts so far by the state government and security agencies towards the release of the kidnapped victims.

โ€œThe CLO is of the view that the government has the capacity and capability to ensure the release of the victims who were on a journey to serve their fatherland and we call on them to do more to save the victims and their families from physical, psychological and emotional trauma.

โ€œCLO calls on government and security agencies to deploy the same strategy and process they used in securing the release of some of the victims to see to the release and freedom of the remaining victims, many of whose families have contributed money to secure their release but without success.โ€
