Chelsea have completed the signing of Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Chelsea paid Brighton the sum of ยฃ25 million to add Robert Sanchez to their roster. The 25-year-old who signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea is the 6th new signing to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Last season, Sanchez played 23 Premier League games for Brighton before losing his starting shirt to 32-year-old English goalkeeper Jason Steele.
In 2013, when Sanchez was 15 years old, he moved from La Liga team Levante to Brighton as an academy recruit. Two years later, he agreed to his first professional contract with the Premier League club.
After loan spells at Forest Green Rovers and Rochdale, Robert Sanchez made his Premier League debut for Brighton in a 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in November 2020.
He is expected to compete with fellow Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for a starting shirt at Chelsea in the 2023-2024 season and beyond.
In reaction to Sanchezโs move to Chelsea, the clubโs sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart said in a statement, โRobert has repeatedly proved himself in the Premier League and been capped by his country.
โWe are excited to watch him work with Mauricio and his coaching team during the season ahead.โ
Robert Sanchez is expected to strengthen Mauricio Pochettinoโs squad alongside other new Chelsea signings like Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal, Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig, Axel Disasi, a defender for France, from Monaco, Lesley Ugochukwu, a French midfielder from Rennes, and 18-year-old Brazilian winger Angelo Gabriel.
