Nonagenarian business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, has described the move to adopt the parliamentary system of government by some National Assembly members as the best thing to happen to Nigeria.

Dantata, who was a parliamentarian in the First Republic, spoke on Thursday while receiving a delegation of the 60 members of the House of Representatives who are seeking a return to the parliamentary system of government.

He noted that Nigeria would be great again if the system is adopted.

According to him, the presidential system of government, which the country is operating, is unmanageable and costlier, hence the need for change.

โ€œThings are not working, the country is stagnant and the citizens are not enjoying anything out of it so there should be a serious moves to adopt the parliamentary system so that Nigeria would be great,โ€ he said.

Dantata warned the legislators pushing for the adoption of the parliamentary system to be wary of personal interests.

Speaking, the leader of the delegation, Kingsley Chinda, PDP, Rivers State, noted that the presidential system which Nigeria is operating now is costlier and cumbersome, making it difficult to manage.

He said, โ€œEven Prime Minister would be chosen from the National Assembly and other governors and any attempt for them to go astray would be tackled easily by the members.โ€

Chinda urged Nigerians, and the media in particular, to support the move to adopt the presidential system of government.
