German Bundesliga’s official website has taken out time to compare the new arrival in the league, Victor Boniface, and the league’s legend Robert Lewandowski.
Victor Boniface left Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise to join Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen this summer for a transfer fee worth €20 million.
After making just two appearances in the German Bundesliga, the 22-year-old Nigerian striker has earned himself a comparison with Lewandowski who is regarded as one of the greatest strikers of all time.
Recall that Victor Boniface has announced himself in the German league with three goals and one assist in just three games which makes his new manager, Xabi Alonso described him as “a real problem” to defenders.
Boniface further announced his name in the league last weekend when he scored two goals for Leverkusen as the team beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 in a Rhine derby at Borussia Park.
“Comparing a Bundesliga newcomer to one of the league’s absolute all-time greats might sound a tad premature, but hear us out,” Bundesliga’s media team wrote on the league’s official website.
“Boniface is an all-round center forward, good with both feet, physically powerful, good in the air, and with a surprisingly good dribbling ability. His clever movement and ability to lose his marker are also traits he shares with the Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich legend.”
Last season, Boniface announced his name in European football by scoring two goals and providing two assists in four Europa League group stage games and the round of 16, as well as scoring against his present club in the quarterfinals.
With six goals in 10 games, he finished the 2022–2023 UEFA Europa League as a joint-topscorer alongside Marcus Rashford of Manchester United.
