President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, chaired the fourth national summit on diminishing corruption in the public sector, Naija News reports.
The meeting had in attendance the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye and Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, and former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega.
Others present at the event held at the State House Conference Centre with the theme, ‘Corruption And The Education Sector’ are traditional and religious leaders, members of the National Youths Service Corps, High School students, and members of the press.
The summit was ongoing at the time of filing this report.
NANS Announces Fresh Move Against Buhari’s Gov’t Over Lingering ASUU Strike
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) South-West Zone, announced on Monday that it will organize what it termed a final burial rite of public education in Nigeria.
The student union made the announcement as it blamed President Buhari’s government over the lingering strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Naija News reports that ASUU has been on strike since February 2022.
Reacting in a statement dated Monday, October 3, NANS Coordinator and Spokesperson, Adegboye Olatunji and Awoyinfa Opeoluwa, respectively, accused the incumbent government of killing public education in the country, saying that it is ready to conduct its funeral.
NANS threatened that they would be hitting the streets again in the coming days. “It behoves us to call the attention of the general public and the international community on the brazen insult meted on the Nigerian students by the irresponsible administration of Buhari.
“We want Nigerian students to be ready for grand mass action on the ASUU strike.
“We are clear that this government is anti-public education and this is against the yearnings of millions of students and youths.
“In coming days, we shall be occupying the streets across the South-West region to conduct a final burial rite of public education in the country as this is what the Buhari’s administration represents,” the statement said.
