The Benue State Police Command has arraigned two suspects, Tsaga Ayinaga and Amokaha Aondoso before a Makurdi Chief Magistrateโ€™s Court for allegedly being in possession of fake receipts belonging to Benue Internal Revenue Service, BIRS.

The suspects were also accused of issuing receipts to unsuspecting motorists and other members of the public.

The two accused persons were charged with criminal conspiracy and issuing of forged documents.

Prosecuting police officer Insp. Godwin Ato told the court during an address that a staff of BIRS attached to Katsina-ala Area Office had reported to the police that on January 20, the state acting Chairman of BIRS informed him through telephone that one Jack Dusa, also a staff of BIRS, was issuing fake receipts to members of the public.

He added that in the course of investigations, some of the receipts were found with three persons in Vandeikya and Katsina-ala LGAs.

He said the complainant stated that when the suspects were questioned, they said it was the accused who gave them the fake receipts.

Ato informed the court that the matter is still being investigated and asked for adjournment.

Ruling on the matter, the Chief Magistrate, Hon Kelvin Mbanongon granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N1 million, with one surety in the like s, and adjourned the case to March 18 for further mention.
