The Benue State government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming the power and transport sectors to address the critical needs of the people.
Barr Omale Omale, the Commissioner for Transport and Power, made this announcement while speaking to journalists in Makurdi on Monday.
The commissioner noted that Governor Hyacinth Alia recognizes the significance of these sectors in revitalizing the stateโs economy and is determined to promote their growth.
According to him, the Ministry of Power and Transport, which was created by Governor Aliaโs administration, is essential due to the importance of the sector.
Omale said plans have been put in place to make the state-owned Benue Links Transport Company render seamless service to the traveling public and retain itโs position and the apex transport company in the state.
He noted that 80 percent of the new buses acquired for the company have been delivered, with safety assessments being conducted to ensure passenger safety.
The commissioner assured the people of Benue that all 23 local government areas in the state will be served by Benue Links buses, with plans to maintain a continuous cycle of buses entering and exiting local government areas, reducing the impact of fuel subsidy removal on the stateโs residents.
He said, โWe intend to make it in such a way that when one vehicle is leaving a local government area, another will be entering.โ
Omale stressed that the North Bank and Wurukum Parks in Makurdi metropolis will be reclaimed from illegal occupants and refurbished to provide enhanced services to travelers.
