The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Amakoromo Waikumo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, winner of the Yenagoa Constituency 2 re-/run election.

The February 3rd re-run election was held in seven units of Gbarain 1 & 2, and Ekpetiama 1 & 2, where elections were initially cancelled due to electoral malpractices.

Waikuno, who scored the highest votes cast, polled a total of 5959 votes to beat his closest rival, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 5263 votes.

Declaring the result, the state returning officer, Prof Chris Onyema, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Otuoke said, โ€œBy the powers vested on me, the candidate, Warikumo Amakoro having certified the requirements of the law and scored the highest votes, is hereby declared the winner of Yenagoa constituency 2 re-run electionโ€

Recall that Yenagoa constituency 2 election results conducted on November 11, 2023, were declared in favour of the APGA candidate, Warikumo Amakoro but the PDP candidate, Eboiwou Koku Obiyal, challenged the result and the court consequently ordered a re-run election on 3rd February 2024.
