The Assemblies of God Nigeria (AGN), on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, declared Reverend Dr Abek Amadi as its new General Superintendent.
OsunDaily News understands that the incumbent General Superintendent of the pentecostal church, Pastor Ejikeme Ejim, will be retiring in December 2022.
Pastor Ejikeme had served the denomination for 44 years. His retirement became necessary after reaching the church’s mandatory 70 years retirement age.
Amadi was, until the election day, the District Superintendent of Owerri East District of AGN.
Amadi, a member of the now dissolved current Executive Committee, was elected at the 4th Elective ballot at the ongoing 37th General council meeting of Assemblies of God Church held at Evangel Camp Okpoto.
OsunDaily News understands that the church leaders commenced the process that produced the new leadership early on Wednesday, but it stretched into Thursday morning.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Council Meeting, Rev. Isaac Mpamugo, said Amadi polled 3233 as against the current General Secretary of the Church, Rev. Dr Godwin Amaowoh, who polled 1208 to come a distant second.
On Wednesday, November 16, the General Overseer of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Dr Williams Kumuyi, shared his thoughts on endorsing a presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 election.
Speaking in Jalingo, Taraba state capital, during the first-ever Global Church Workers Conference, the revered clergyman said that he would not be caught up in the web of recommending or disqualifying anyone vying for the seat of the President.
He opined that Nigerians should be allowed to choose who would rule them democratically, and prayers should be sustained for God to make their choice the best for the country.
Kumuyi urged the citizenry to offer up prayers to God for the best candidate to take over power in 2023.
He explained that only God knows the heart of the candidates and what they will and can do when they take over the presidency.
