Army apprehend 2 suspected gun manufacturers in Plateau, recover weapons

Two suspected gun manufacturers in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, have been arrested by troops of Operation Safe Haven, OPSH, a military taskforce maintaining peace in the state.

OPSH Media Officer, Capt. James Oya, told journalists in Jos on Saturday that troops of the taskforce uncovered the suspectsโ€™ gun factory, where newly-manufactured weapons were recovered.

He said the suspects, Micheal Dung (33) and Yusuf Pam (43) were arrested and their weapons manufacturing factory dismantled.

โ€œPreliminary investigation reveals that the suspects sell guns to customers in different parts of the country.

โ€œTroops recovered six AK-47 rifles, three skeleton AK-47 rifles, one locally-made pistol, 11 rifle bodies, seven bridge block, and four magazines.

โ€œ210 springs, seven rifle butts, eight riffle muzzles, nine piston assembly, five cartridge housings, one drilling machine and a hand filing machine were also recovered from them.

โ€œThe suspects will be charged to court immediately after investigations,โ€™โ€™ Oya said.

The prime suspect, Dung, told newsmen that he had been in the illegal business for six years.

According to him, he learned the skill from his deceased boss, and his customers were majorly from Mangu in Plateau.

Dung added that he sold arms at between N80,000 and N200,000, depending on the category.
