Armed Forces focusing on terrorists’ command structures, leadership – DHQ

Defence Headquarters says the military has persisted in hitting the leaders and chains of command of extremist organizations, rebels, and terrorists who pose threats to national security.

Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, made this announcement on Friday in Abuja.

According to Buba, the nationโ€™s continuous counterterrorism and counterinsurgency efforts are producing positive outcomes.

He stated that throughout the previous weekโ€™s activities, 122 terrorists had been arrested and no fewer than 50 had been eliminated in various operations across the nation.

He also said the army freed 182 captives who had been kidnapped and captured 49 people who had stolen oil.

In addition, he stated that the soldiers found 11,474 rounds of ammunition and 66 different types of weapons, including one GT3 rifle, one NSVT gun, one Conqueror APC, four pump action guns, 25 AK47 rifles, and two locally manufactured AK47 rifles.

โ€œItems recovered also include three locally made guns, one locally made revolver gun, four locally fabricated pistols and four long Dane guns, two locally made hand grenades, one bandolier.

โ€œOthers are 574 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 640 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 150 rounds of 12.7mm ammo, five rounds of 9mm ammo, 10,520 live cartridges and five vehicles, 27 mobile phones.

โ€œOthers are 12 motorcycles, three Boafeng radios, one Motorolla HHR, three bicycles, one solar panel, one solar charger controller, one radio receiver and the sum of N75.9 million amongst other items.โ€

According to Buba, Operation Hadin Kai forces in the Northeast killed 33 terrorists, captured 13, freed 132 captives who had been kidnapped, and retrieved a cache of weapons within the same week.

He said in the North Central, the soldiers of Operation Safe Haven killed 20 terrorists, captured 34, and freed 10 captives who had been kidnapped with the recovery of weapons and ammunition of a different calibre.

According to Buba, during the week, the soldiers of Operation Whirl Stroke killed one terrorist, detained nine others, and freed eight hostages who had been kidnapped.

He added that Operation Hadarin Dajiโ€™s soldiers in the North West neutralized 20 terrorists, detained 48 others, freed 56 captives who had been kidnapped, and recovered multiple weapons.
