A three-man Court of Appeal panel sitting in Lagos has upheld the election of Nwogu Iheanacho, the member representing Osisioma Ngwa North constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly on the platform of Young Progressive Party (YPP).
The court dismissed the appeal brought by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Kennedy Njoku for lacking in merit.
The State House of Assembly election petition tribunal sitting in Umuahia had earlier dismissed the case, ruling in favour of Iheanacho.
But the PDP candidate, Kennedy Njoku headed to the Appeal Court, insisting that the election that produced the YPP legislator did not conform with the Electoral Act, among other prayers.
However, delivering judgement on the matter, the Appeal Court held that the appeal by the PDP candidate lacked merit and dismissed it.
Similarly, the Appeal Court sitting in Lagos has upheld the victory of Mr Rowland Chinwendu as the duly elected member representing Isiala Ngwa South constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly.
The Appeal Court dismissed the appeal brought by Mr Dannie Ubani, the candidate of the Labour Party during the March 18 House of Assembly polls.
The Court held that the appeals by the LP candidate lacked merit as he was not able to prove his claims that the election of Chinwendu did not conform with provisions of the Electoral Act.
