The Appeal Court on Saturday put to rest the legal battle between the member representing Yorro Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Kassong Joseph, and the former Deputy Speaker, Mohammed Danladi Gwampo.

The duo have been at loggerheads following the election of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, candidate, Joseph, as the member representing the constituency, in the 2023 general polls.

Not satisfied with the outcome of the poll, the former Deputy Speaker approached the tribunal challenging the election of the SDP candidate.

However, the tribunal upheld the election of the SDP flagbearer.

An appeal filed by the former Deputy Speaker was also dismissed by the Court of Appeal on Saturday.

Elated by the Appeal Court verdict, Joseph, in a statement made available to journalists in Jalingo, said the judgement has laid to rest the lingering legal battle between him and the former Deputy Speaker.

โ€œThis victory at the Court of Appeal once more reaffirmed the decision of the good people of Yorro who freely gave me the mandate to represent them in the State House of Assembly.

โ€œTo me, the people of Yorro won for the third time in this election, and not me.

โ€œAs a servant leader, this victory means a lot to me as it has set a clear pathway for a new dawn in our constituency.

โ€ Now that the litigation is over, it is time for us to close ranks and work for the good of Yorro Constituency.โ€

He extended the Olive branch to the former Deputy Speaker.

โ€œIt is against this backdrop that I call on my elder brother, Mohammed Danladi Gwampo, to join me in delivering good leadership to the people of Yorro Local Government and Taraba State at large.โ€

Though Gwampo could not be reached as of the time of filing this report, one of his political associates, who spoke with our reporter, said the former Deputy Speakerโ€™ โ€œwas highly disappointed with the judgementโ€.
