Ekpenyong Iso, the commissioner for culture and tourism in Cross River, has been suspended for working against the All Progressives Congress.
Mr Iso was suspended by the Ward 8, Calabar municipality executives for anti-party activities and corruption.
The suspension was announced in a statement jointly issued on Wednesday by the chairman of Ward 8, Kingsley Ekpe, and the secretary, Gilbert Bassey, noting that the commissionerโs suspension was based on Article 21 (D) of the APC constitution.
The commissioner was suspended for one year.
โYour suspension is predicated on the recommendations of the disciplinary and fact-finding committee set up to investigate the petition of misappropriation of party funds and anti-party activities levelled against you,โ the APC statement explained.
It added, โConsequently, during the pendency of this suspension, which takes immediate effect, you are to stay away from all party activities.โ
Reacting to the suspension, Mr Iso, in a telephone interview, said he was not involved in any anti-party activities, nor did he mismanage any funds during the just-concluded elections.
He said the statement about his purported suspension was written by some โunscrupulous persons.โ
โThe allegations are completely false; there was nothing like anti-party activities or misappropriation of funds during the last elections. โThe ward executive of the party is meeting soon to refute the statement because there is no substance to their claims,โ added the commissioner.
