Today, the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s National Working Committee (NWC) is expected to meet and discuss critical issues impacting the party, unless there are last-minute changes.
Sources at the party’s national secretariat that spoke with Daily Trust confirmed that the NWC will address the zoning of positions in the 10th National Assembly set to be inaugurated in June. Debates over which geo-political zone will receive which roles have caused tensions.
Factors such as religion, ethnicity, and region are influencing the race for National Assembly positions, particularly the Senate presidency. Despite no official decision on zoning, numerous aspirants have emerged for various roles, and agitation persists.
President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu urged APC governors in a meeting last Thursday to collaborate with the party’s top leaders to decide the principal officers for the 10th Assembly.
The NWC will also discuss calls for the removal of National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu and the expulsion of Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman.
OsunDaily News had earlier reported that Lukman called for Adamu’s removal for acting against the constitution of the ruling party.
Lukman who had given Adamu a 7-day ultimatum, filed a suit against Adamu in court after he failed to address a letter forwarded to him.
The lawsuit prompted the National Legal Adviser of the party, Ahmad Usman El- Marzuq in a letter call for the expulsion of Lukman.
El-Marzuq noted that Adamu’s case is an internal issue, hence he shouldn’t approach the court.
