About 171,956 applicants have been invited by the Police Commission Service (PCS) for aptitude tests.

A statement on Thursday by the PCS spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, explained that the 171,956 applicants were those who applied for general duty positions.

According to the statement, out of the 171,956 applicants, 146,138 are males, while 25,818 are females.

Ani further explained that March 5, 2024, has been fixed for the aptitude tests.

He said that the commission has approved the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to conduct the tests following its long standing pedigree in such examinations.

He explained that Adamawa State would be presenting the highest number of candidates for the tests with 13, 780, followed by Kaduna with 12,343, Bauchi 10,911, Benue, 10,532 and Katsina,10,457.

Anambra State, he said, has the least candidates for the aptitude tests with 343 applicants, followed by Lagos with 504 and Ebonyi, 600.

The successful candidates from the computer-based tests, he further explained, would be required to appear for medical examinations before they proceed for training.

PSC had in October 2023, in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) invited interested Nigerians to apply as constables, adding that the commission also invited applications for enlistment as artisans into specialised fields.

According to him, the fields include medical assistant, veterinary assistant, band section, communications or info-tech specialist, driver or mechanic, marine, plumbers, masons, painters, tilers, electricians, welders and carpenters.
