The Traditional Council of Enugwu-Agidi in Anambra State, led by the monarch, Igwe Micheal Chidozie Okeke, has accused the President General of the community, Chuekwuebuka Onuorah, of running a private militia.
The Council called on Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to intervene to avoid a breakdown of law and order.
Representatives of the traditional ruler of the community, led by his Personal Secretary, Chief Ifeanyi Ndulue, who were at the Anambra State Government House to meet with the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Matters, told journalists that the town has become unsafe.
Ndulue said: โWe are here to inform the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Matters of some ugly happening in our community.
โLast month we saw pictures of people in our village wearing sundry security uniforms and a security van being handed over to them by our President General and we were told that the President General created and armed a militia against the directive of the state. This is his personal security, and he armed them.
โSo the Traditional Ruler, being the Chief Security Officer of the community, disapproved of it and wrote to the state government. We learnt the commissioner called the President General and asked him to disarm the militia and also disband them, but he is yet to do so.
โAgain, last Sunday we had phone calls that some hooded policemen came in their numbers and invaded the house of the Traditional Prime Minister of our community, Dr Osita Anameze to get him arrested.
โWe were informed that the President General of Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union, Hon Chuekwuebuka Onuorah made a petition against him to the Force Headquarters. We donโt even have the details of the petition, but we learnt the the IG squad came to take away the Prime Minister.
โThat is not the only issue in our community. The President General has made Enugwu-Agidi unsafe, and has been harassing everyone.โ
Ndulue said the meeting with the commissioner was fruitful, and that the community has been asked to put the complaint in writing.
Meanwhile, the President General has insisted that the security outfit is that of the entire community and nothing personal to him.
โThey are just trying to create confusion. The vigilante they are talking about is Enugwu-Agidi Vigilante, not Ebuka Onuorah vigilante.โ
Reacting to allegations that he bought security operatives to arrest the Prime Minister, the President General said: โWhy are they panicking? Just once that police came for them, they are panicking. Do you know how many times they have arrested me? If someone is not guilty, why are they afraid of policemen.โ
