An agency of the Anambra State Government, Awka Capital Territory Development Agency, ACTDA, on Thursday destroyed newspapers at news stands in Awka, the state capital .

Operatives of the agency also beat up newspaper vendors.

Members of a taskforce set up by the agency also destroyed goods belonging to other roadside traders.

Newspaper copies destroyed by the agency include The Nation, The Sun, Vanguard, Punch, Guardian and others.

The agencyโ€™s taskforce equally beat up traders at the popular Aroma Junction and destroyed the PoS machines of some vendors.

Some of the vendors, passersby and petty traders rained curses on the agency, while others swore not to sell newspapers again until Soludo and his agents address the development.

โ€œOur tables were equally destroyed, while our umbrellas were confiscated by the agents of the government. Last week, same thing happened, we are wondering if Soludo does not need poor people any longer in Anambra,โ€ one of the newspaper vendors said.

When contacted by OsunDailyNG, Soludoโ€™s Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime said he was not aware of the incident.

He promised to reach out to the management of the agency.

He however said that the development was in keeping with the resolve of the state government to bequeath Anambra a clean, healthy and serene environment.
