The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State has urged Gov Ademola Adeleke to discontinue the state’s recent free school food initiative.

The request was made in response to the recent suspected food poisoning of 18 primary school students at St. James Primary School in Osogbo.

DAILY POST recalls that 18 students allegedly felt ill after eating their free O-Meal diet on Monday and were taken to an undisclosed hospital, where they were all treated and later discharged.

In response to the development, Osun APC chairman Sooko Lawal, in a statement on Tuesday in Osogbo, described the incident as another example of the state’s lax leadership.

In the statement issued to journalists by Kola Olabisi, the party’s Director of Media and Information, Lawal described the occurrence as an embarrassment to the population and a reflection of the “handlers’” lack of preparedness.

“How would the food vendors be dedicated when they are paid peanuts and are not supplied with the right food supplies? ” Lawal said.

He called on stakeholders to unite to denounce the laissez-faire attitude towards governance, which was demonstrated in part by the suspected poisoning of 18 primary school students.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Government has ordered a thorough inquiry into the alleged food poisoning at St. James Primary School (B), Owoope, Osogbo.
