An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Adamu Garba, has claimed that Algeria has decided to supply free electricity to the Niger Republic.

OsunDailyNG recalls that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had cut off the power supply to the embattled country.

TUC Kano State sub-region Public Relations Officer, Adam Umar El-yandiski, confirmed the news to Channels Television via phone call.

According to him, the connection that supplies power to Niger Republic comes directly from the national grid, therefore, it has no connection with the supply of power to any region in the country.

The move was part of pressure on the countryโ€™s coup leaders.

However, speaking via his Twitter handle on Friday, Garba stated that Niger had gotten an alternative to its power supply issues.

According to the APC stalwart, Niger will now receive power supply from Algeria.

He wrote, โ€œAlgeria is to supply electricity to Niger Republic for free.โ€

Power Cut Will Push Niger To Resent You โ€“ Shehu Sani

Meanwhile, a former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has berated the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, for cutting the power supply to the Niger Republic.

Sani insisted that the move would lead to Nigeriens living their lives without depending on external forces.

According to reports, power outages in Niger have been less frequent than it was in previous times, as power only stayed on for about an hour at a period for residents of the cities of Niamey, Maradi, and Zinder.

Reacting to the development via Twitter on Friday, Sani highlighted the implication of Nigeria halting power supply to its northern neighbour.

Sani insisted that the move would lead to Nigeriens living their lives without depending on external forces.

OsunDailyNG recalls that Nigeria reportedly cut the power supply to the Niger Republic as one of the sanctions from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) over the coup in the country.

He wrote, โ€œCutting off electricity supplies to Niger Republic is affecting their hospitals, Schools, homes and offices.

โ€œThis is not putting pressure on the military junta but punishing the masses of that country and creating resentment against our country.

โ€œThe action taken by Nigeria and Ecowas is further pushing Nigeriens to rally around their Military Government. France, Ecowas & Nigeria are pushing them to learn to live without dependence.โ€
