Former England internationals, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker are expecting nothing less than the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy from the countryโs newly appointed head coach, Thomas Tuchel.
Thomas Tuchelโs appointment as Englandโs new manager has sparked discussions about the teamโs future as the countryโs under-21 coach, Lee Carsley, continues to lead the national team until January 1.
Tuchelโs impressive track record and the talented players at his disposal have raised hopes for Englandโs success. However, there has been some criticism about the decision not to hire an English coach, with some suggesting that there were a lack of outstanding English candidates for the role.
Overall, there are differing opinions about Tuchelโs appointment, and many are eager to see how he will lead the team in the upcoming tournaments.
While speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer said, โWe need a trophy โ itโs as simple as that. We need a manager who can deliver that.
โThereโs no doubt (Tuchel) has an incredible CV, but this is going to be a very different test for him. Itโs a bold move from the FA (Football Association), thereโs no doubt about it.
โYou have to win the tournament, thatโs what heโs been hired for. They (the FA) have seen the bunch of players are the best England have had for a long, long time.โ
Gary Lineker added, โTuchel will have looked at this squad and thought there is so much talent in there, this is an unbelievable opportunity of winning the greatest trophy of all.
โI would have given the job to Carsley. I have seen enough to suggest the players really trust him, that heโs imaginative enough to produce something that is a joy to watch โ entertaining front-footed football.โ
