The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the immediate past speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and member, Senator Aniekan Bassey has congratulated the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno on his victory at the Supreme Court.

Recall that the Supreme Court on Thursday confirmed Governor Eno as the validly elected governor of the State in the March 18, 2023 Governorship Elections.

PDP national spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba in a statement described the judgment as a โ€œvictory for Democracy and the decisive triumph of the will of the peopleโ€

On his part, the former speaker who is also the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, Aniekan Bassey, described Governor Enoโ€™s victory as a reinforcement of the strength and credibility of Nigeriaโ€™s democratic institutions.

He said the decision of the apex Court simply affirmed Pastor Eno as the politically elected, legally inaugurated and judicially confirmed Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

According to him, โ€œI sincerely extend my heartfelt congratulations to Governor Umo Eno on his well-deserved triumph at the Supreme Court. This verdict not only validates the mandate bestowed upon him by the people of Akwa Ibom State but also reinforces the strength and credibility of our democratic institutions.โ€

Acknowledging the challenges encountered during the legal battle, Senator Bassey, who is the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development, commended Governor Eno for his unwavering commitment to democratic ideals, saying โ€œGovernor Umo Eno has demonstrated his dedication to the Akwa Ibom Project, and I am confident that his administration will work for the betterment and integration of Akwa Ibom State.โ€

Senator Bassey explained that โ€œthe apex Courtโ€™s ruling marks the conclusion of a protracted legal process initiated shortly after the elections. Todayโ€™s decision by the Supreme Court solidifies Governor Umo Enoโ€™s position as the legitimate leader of Akwa Ibom State. It has also reinforced the sanctity of the democratic process.โ€

โ€œAs Akwa Ibom State charts a course toward a new era of governance, let this victory serve as a reminder of our collective responsibility in enhancing the progress and prosperity of our dear state.โ€

He also appealed to the Akwa Ibom people to remain firm in their continued support of Governor Umo Eno, which, according to him, underscores the importance of unity in advancing the state.
