The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has taken a swipe at the National Assembly over the purchase of N160 million vehicles for members.
According to the apex Yoruba group, taking such a decision when majority of Nigerians are wallowing in poverty is unwise.
The group spoke in a communique read after a meeting at the residence of Chief Ayo Adebanjo in Ogun State.
In the communique signed by Adebanjo and the Secretary-General, Chief Sola Ebiseeni, the group expressed anger that government officials are living in opulence while the masses are told to continue to make sacrifices.
โIt is most preposterous that members of the National Assembly are approving for themselves vehicles worth N160 Million because of the deplorable state of the Nigerian roads as if the responsibility to fix the said roads rest with the tax players,โ Afenifere said.
The mainstream Yoruba group further stressed that the Federal Government cannot convince Nigerians on the need for a yacht worth billions of Naira amid the high cost of fuel and the continuing decline of the value of the countryโs currency.
