South Africa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has warned the Super Eagles of Nigeria that stats donโt play game ahead of both teamsโ 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, semi-final tie on Wednesday.
Williams, who recently put his name in historyโs book after saving four penalties during shoot-outs against Cape Verde in the quarter-final, gave the warning during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
OsunDailyNG reports that historically, the Super Eagles have more wins against the Bafana Bafana in terms of head-to-head.
However, Williams insisted that Hugo Broosโ side are not worried about their poor record against Nigeria.
โStats donโt play the game. You know many statistics that were against us in this tournament and we proved that stats donโt play the game,โ Williams said.
โSo, what has happened in the past, we canโt change that, but what we can change is tomorrowโs result, tomorrowโs performance. So we donโt look at that because that canโt change now.
โWe control what we can control and that is tomorrowโs performance and tomorrowโs result.โ
