Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri says porous international borders have worsened insecurity in the state.

The governor said this while receiving the new State Controller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Mohammed Adamu, who paid him a courtesy call on Thursday.

He urged NIS to deploy technology to secure the international borders around Adamawa State to curtail rising security challenges.

Fintiri, who pointed out that Adamawa has nine local government areas bordering Cameroon, stressed that urgent and effective measures are necessary to properly secure the extensive borders.

โ€œMost of the elements of security breaches come from the porous borders,โ€ the governor said, adding that a huge number of criminals operating in the state are foreigners.

He expressed gladness with reforms in the issuance of international passports by the NIS but urged the Service to ensure that non-Nigerians are not registered.

โ€œAdamawa has many foreigners who share many things in common with indigenes,โ€ Fintiri said.

Earlier in his remarks, the new NIS state comptroller said the various border entry points would be tightened to enhance security.
