Abia govt to begin relocation of Aba mechanics, auto parts dealers to industrial layout

Enforcement relocation of auto mechanics and spare parts dealers to the Ovom industrial cluster in Abia State will begin in January 2024, according to the Abia State government.

Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, made this known during his visit to the mechanic cluster at Opobo road, Obingwa LG.

Emetu advised all mechanic unions and spare parts associations to collaborate with the State government and to adhere strictly to the relocation policy.

He said the mechanic cluster is equipped with facilities for mechanics to do spare parts sales and vehicle maintenance.

The Abia Deputy Governor who lamented that condemned engine oil and chemicals being removed from vehicles pose threats to the asphalted roads in Aba, said the many drainages in Aba were being blocked by disused motor parts and stenchy chemicals.

Emetu, however, said the State government was sanitizing Aba of dirty environment and creating a more conducive business area for auto spare parts dealers.

He revealed that the Company in charge of the project will work hand in glove with the financial institution to ensure a hitch-free process for those who may wish to access funds to enable them acquire shops at the cluster.

Also, Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Chimezie Ukaegbu, assured the traders that the state government has put modalities in place to take care of challenges being faced by traders and mechanics.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) Abia State chapter, Obiora Nweke thanked the Abia State government for the period of grace and pledged their total compliance to the directive.
