A 66-year-old widow, Elizabeth Uruakpa, who was kidnapped in the Ilisan Remo area of Ogun State, has been released by her captors.
Uruakpa, who works as the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, was abducted last week while returning from a church service.
OsunDailyNG reported that the armed men intercepted Uruakpaโs Honda CRV with their unregistered red Toyota Camry, forcing her into their vehicle before speeding away.
On Thursday, Uruakpa was reportedly dropped off at the gate of Babcock University.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed her release and noted that Uruakpa is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Odutola said, โOne Elizabeth Uruakpa, a nurse at Babcock UTH, Ilishan, who was abducted, has now been released and is presently in the hospital on treatment. Investigation ongoing.โ
While reports from Daily Post suggest the kidnappers demanded a ransom of โฆ50 million, it remains unclear how much was paid for her release.
The Director of Communication and Marketing at Babcock University, Joshua Suleiman, also confirmed Uruakpaโs release, saying, โI have heard about the news. I heard that she was dropped off at the university gate; though, I have not seen her.โ
