Newcastle United have signed Chelsea academy graduate, Lewis Hall from the Stamford Bridge-based club for an initial loan deal.
Newscastle United and Chelsea agreed that the player will stay at St. Jamesโ Park on loan for a season, afterward, Newcastle United will sign him permanently next summer.
If Newcastle United activates the buy option in the loan deal next summer, the UEFA Champions League side are expected to pay Chelsea ยฃ28 million and ยฃ7 million in add-ons.
Before the completion of this deal, Newcastle United coach Eddie Howe said the 18-year-old England under-21 versatile player would be the clubโs last signing this summer unless one of his players sustain an injury before the end of the transfer window.
Recall that Lewis Hall made his senior debut for Chelsea in November 2022 against Newcastle United. The game ended in a 1-0 defeat.
Hall is best known for playing as a left-back but has also featured on the wing and in midfield during his time at Stamford Bridge.
He made 11 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions last season, including nine in the Premier League, and is the clubโs Academy Player of the Year for 2023.
โHeโs a player I like โ very versatile with really good potential,โ coach Howe said.
Unfortunately for Lewis Hall, he is one of the victims of coach Mauricio Pochettinoโs ongoing overhaul of the Chelsea squad which has seen the exit of 13 players on permanent transfers and four on loan.
Chelsea included a sell-on clause on Hallโs deal in case he joins Newcastle United permanently and then moves to another club subsequently.
