Former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Shehu Sani has disclosed what happened when Nigeria invaded Liberia and Sierra Leone in the 90’s.
OsunDailyNG recalls that on Sunday, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) had given a one week ultimatum to the coup plotters in Niger to hand over power to the democratically elected government.
The decision was made following an extraordinary session of the ECOWAS member states presided over by President Bola Tinubu, its chairman, in Abuja.
At the meeting, a resolution was reached to impose several sanctions on Niger over the military coup.
ECOWAS said in the event that the demand is not met within one week, all measures necessary to restore constitutional order in the Republic of Niger, including the use of force, will be taken.
However, Sani has taken to Twitter to reveal what happened when Nigeria under ECOMOG, invaded Liberia and Sierra Leone.
He stated that Nigeria spent a whopping sum of $8Billion dollars and the lives of over a thousand soldiers were lost.
He wrote, “Encouraged by the West Under ECOMOG in the 90s, Nigerian Soldiers entered Liberia and Sierra Leone. The French West African Countries refused to join. The West gave us little support. Nigeria spent $8Billion(revealed by Gen Lucky Irabor) and we lost over a thousand Soldiers.”
