Watfordโs third-choice goalkeeper and Nigeria international, Maduka Okoye, is expected to quit the team this summer.
Currently, Maduka Okoye has dropped from the pecking order at the Championship side from being a backup goalkeeper to the clubโs first-choice goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann to being a third-choice goalkeeper after Ben Hamer.
The future of the out of favour Nigeria International appears to lie outside Vicarage Road. Unfortunately, his uncertain future at the club has become more complicated by the fact that he has not joined the Watford preseason team this summer.
Also, Maduka Okoye did not take part in the two friendly games Watford played against National League team Boreham Wood and their 1-1 draw with Arsenal last week.
According to a report from Watford Observer, Okoye and Watford are willing to part ways permanently this summer and that might happen sooner than later.
โIt would be no surprise if Okoye were to leave during the transfer window,โ the publication claimed.
โHe was conspicuously missing from the Hornetsโ 0-0 draw at National League side Boreham Wood and their 1-1 draw with Arsenal last week, which fuels speculation about his future.โ
A season ago, Maduka Okoye moved from Sparta Rotterdam to Watford for an estimated โฌ3.5 million transfer fee.
Unfortunately for the Nigerian goalkeeper, he only made substitute appearances four times for the Hornets in 2023, playing only twice for them in the League Cup and FA Cup. Then, a shoulder injury at the end of the previous season prevented him from playing any active role in the team.
