The world football governing body, FIFA handed Manchester City the highest payout of any club for releasing players for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

From the international governing bodyโ€™s total of $209 million in rewards to clubs, City received $4.6 million which is the highest payout, followed by Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Paris St. Germain.

English clubs received $37.7 million (ยฃ29 million), more than any other countryโ€™s clubs, while European teams took home ยฃ158.9 million (ยฃ122.33 million), or 76% of the total payout amount.

After City, Manchester United, and Chelsea were the next English clubs that received the highest payout from FIFA โ€“ $3.32 million and $3.26 million, respectively.

The five clubs that received the lowest payout, $15,513, included Santos of Brazil.

How FIFA Paid The Players That Featured In The 2022 FIFA World Cup In Qatar

The 837 participants of the 2022 World Cup, which took place from November 20 to December 18, received payments based on the number of days they had spent in the tournament.

Each player reportedly received a daily salary of $10,950 from FIFA.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the payout will rise for the 2026 and 2030 editions of the tournament, which will be expanded from 32 to 48 countries.

โ€œFollowing the renewal of the memorandum of understanding with the European Clubsโ€™ Association, the amount redistributed to clubs will further increase from $209m (ยฃ160.91m) for the 2018 and 2022 editions to $355m (ยฃ304.35m) for the 2026 and 2030 tournaments, recognizing yet again the importance of the role played by clubs,โ€ the FIFA president said.
