A popular businesswoman identified as Onyi Ugba, at Okija Street, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
OsunDailyNG learned that this comes barely six months after armed robbers invaded her superstore on Okija Street in December 2022 and carted away a huge sum of money running in millions.
According to DAILY POST, the heavily armed criminals, numbering about five, stormed Ugbaโs superstore on Friday, demanding the businesswoman to hand over all the money she made from sales to them.
The gunmen reportedly got infuriated when Ugba was unable to provide the amount of money they demanded, and they started shooting sporadically before whisking her away while the people around the scene of the incident scampered for safety.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said when personnel of the Mile 1 Police station arrived at the scene, the criminals had already left.
She assured that the police were on the case to ensure the victimโs rescue and the perpetratorsโ arrest.
Four Killed As Troops Rescue 24 Kidnapped Victims
In other news, At least fourย banditsย were killed in Zamfara State in a recent confrontation with troops of Operation Hadarin Daji.
This is as the Nigerian Army confirmed in a statement issued on Friday that it rescued no fewer than 24 people kidnapped by bandits in the state.
According to the Army, the victims were freed after engaging the bandits in a fierce gun battle on Friday morning.
