No fewer than three hundred and thirteen students were reportedly withdrawn from Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja allegedly for having poor academic performances.
In a statement made available to journalists in Lokoja, Kogi State capital city yesterday, the Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Unit of the institution, Uredo Omale, said the students were sent out due to their poor grades in the first semester of 2022/2023 academic session.
She explained that the withdrawal of the students followed the consideration of the report of the Academic Board Central Result Verification Committee at the meeting of the board held on June 22, 2023.
OsunDailyNG understands that the affected students cut across 17 departments and 28 programmes being run across the institution.
The National Diploma (ND) I Office Technology and Management reportedly withdrew 43 students, topping the list, while ND1 Public Administration had 39, and ND1 Information and Library Science had 28 withdrawn students.
Meanwhile, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman, who chaired the board, said the decision to withdraw the students was part of the resolve to maintain high academic standards and breed worthy academic ambassadors.
Meanwhile, former Kaduna lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has called out the management of expensive schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja for charging parents millions.
OsunDailyNG reports that Sani, in a post via Twitter on Friday, said despite the millions being charged, the Abuja expensive schools fail to produce the best students in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.
According to the senator, less expensive schools in some remote parts of the country are sweeping the trophies in WAEC and NECO exams.
He wrote: “Abuja Schools Charges parents in tens of millions and they are watching as Students from less expensive schools in some remote parts of the country sweeps the trophies in WAEC and NECO exams.”
