Meta Platforms plans to debut Threads, a microblogging app, just days after Twitter CEO Elon Musk temporarily limits the number of contents users may read on the social networking site.
Threads, Instagramโs text-based chat app, will launch on Thursday and allow users to follow the profiles they already follow on the photo-sharing platform while keeping the same username, according to a listing on Appleโs App Store.
The appโs launch came after Twitter imposed a slew of restrictions, including the prerequisite to be verified to use TweetDeck.
โThreads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to whatโll be trending tomorrow,โ said the appโs description on the store.
Mr Muskโs latest commitments to address data scraping have provoked a heated outcry from Twitter users, and ad experts have warned that it might damage new CEO Linda Yaccarino, who took over last month.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, said in mid-March that it was developing a new social network described as a potential rival to Twitter.
