President Bola Tinubu has received the assurance of support from the leadership of the 10th National Assembly and governors for his โRenewed Hopeโ agenda. One of the governors, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the new Nigerian leader would repeat โwhat he did in Lagos state as governorโ nationally.
Mr Tinubuโs eight-year rule and subsequent stranglehold on Lagos have rankled with many in the state and across the nation, pointing to widespread corruption, impunity and legitimisation of thuggery in the cosmopolitan state.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio gave the assurance when a delegation of senators, governors and captains of industry paid Mr Tinubu a sallah courtesy visit on Wednesday in Lagos.
โThe president has clearly shown a roadmap of his administration in the decisions taken within his first few days in office. These decisions and policies are going to turn the fortunes of the country for good,โ said Mr Akpabio. โThe assembly will match such expeditious measures with its full legislative processes.โ
He added, โI would like to assure Nigerians that whatever will improve their standards of living will receive the backing of the National Assembly.โ
Mr Akpabio said the federal parliament would hit the ground running immediately after it resumes to facilitate laws for the good of the country and its people.
Governor Hope Uzodimma said states would match the speed of the federal government in the task of nation-building. He noted that Mr Tinubu had declared the intention to turn around the economic, legislative and judicial systems for the best, adding that the states are equal to the task.
โYou can see that the impact of the presidentโs decision on subsidy removal and reversal of the multiple exchange rate regime has started impacting the economy,โ stated Mr Uzodimma. โIt has received national and international recognition because it was a hindrance to the growth of the nation. We will just appeal to Nigerians to further be confident of the new administration.โ
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said state governments would reciprocate the people-oriented policies of the Tinubu government, stressing that the president is already showing the way forward with his recent decisions and policies that states could key into.
โWe have seen what he did in Lagos state as governor, which is still a model among other states; that surely will be replicated at the federal level. Lagos will continue to exploit the laudable programmes and policies of the federal government as a model to attaining a society of our dream,โ Mr Sanwo-Olu stated.
