The Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda wept uncontrollably when the body of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari was being laid to rest.

OSUNDAILY NG reports that Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on Sunday after a prolonged illness was buried in his hometown, Daura in Katsina State.

Dignitaries from Nigeria and other countries were gathered at graveside at about 5pm on Tuesday for the interment.

He was finally buried according to Islamic rites at about 5:50pm.

The remains of the former leader arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina State at 2pm amid heavy security and emotional scenes.

Key members of the opposition coalition, Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and Boss Mustapha, on Wednesday visited the graveside of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Atiku, El-Rufai, and Mustapha were seen praying for the repose of Buhari’s soul at the graveside in Daura, Katsina State.

Buhari, a former military Head of State and democratically elected President, died on Sunday in a clinic in London.

On Tuesday, Buhari’s remains were brought back to Nigeria by Vice President Kashim Shettima and President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Tinubu, alongside a high-powered delegation of the Nigerian government, had received the remains at the Katsina Airport.

The body was immediately moved to Buhari’s residence in Daura, where he was finally buried amid full military honours.

Prior to his London trip, Atiku, El-Rufai, and members of the opposition coalition had visited Buhari at his residence in Kaduna State.

The Archdiocese of Kaduna has announced the death of Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Kure, a senior Catholic priest and respected clergyman in the state.

According to an official statement issued by the Office of the Chancellor and signed by Rev. Fr. Christian Okwuyem Emmanuel, Kure died at exactly 4:38 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Multiclinics, Kaduna, after a brief illness.

“I write to notify you of the death of the Rt. Rev. Msgr Emmanuel Kure, which sad event occurred at exactly 4:38am today, Wednesday, 16th July 2025 at Multiclinics, Kaduna, after a brief illness,” the statement reads.

The announcement, addressed to priests, religious and laity in the Archdiocese of Kaduna, expressed condolences on behalf of the Church.

“The Vicar General, Very Rev. Fr Philip Gaiya, conveys his sympathies to all affected by this sad event, especially the immediate family of the Late Msgr, and the entire faithful of the Archdiocese,” the letter stated.

The Archdiocese also indicated that further details regarding funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.

“We enjoin all to continue in the solidarity of prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul,” the statement added.

Kure was a senior priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna, widely respected for his decades of pastoral service and contributions to interfaith peacebuilding in Northern Nigeria. He was known for his deep spirituality, simplicity, and pastoral zeal.

He was instrumental in supporting religious harmony and had served in various capacities, including parish priest, seminary formator, and pastoral administrator.

Kano police arrest 12 students over deadly attack in school

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 12 students in connection with a deadly attack at Government Secondary School, Bichi, which led to the death of two students and left two others hospitalized.

This is contained in a post shared on Wednesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X.

The post stated that the incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday, July 14, when some senior students reportedly tricked four fellow students into a hostel and assaulted them.

“The students who were attacked have been identified as 19-year-old Hamza Idris from SS3B, 18-year-old Umar Yusuf from SS2C, Ibrahim Ibrahim from SS2B, and Aliyu M. Nasir, also from SS2C.

“Idris and Yusuf were later confirmed dead at Bichi General Hospital, while Ibrahim and Nasir are still receiving treatment.

“The principal of the school, Yusuf Ado Yakasai, reported the case to the police on July 15.

“Police named the arrested suspects as Suleman Abdullahi, Ahmad Sanusi, Lawan Alasan Tambai, Aliyu Idris, Abubakar Abdulaziz (all of SS3A); Ibrahim Nura, Hamza Isiyaku (SS3B); Usaini Mamuda, Masaudu Idris, Yasir Murtala (SS3C); and Abubakar Muhammad (SS3D),” Makama wrote.

Makama further stated that the police assured that investigations are ongoing, and anyone found guilty will be charged according to the law.
