'National tragedy' — Emir of Daura mourns Buhari

The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk, has described the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari as a national tragedy and a painful loss to the people of Daura Emirate, Katsina State, and the nation at large.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Daura Palace on Monday, the royal father said the death of the former president was a great loss to Nigeria and the entire African continent.

The traditional ruler said the news of Buhari’s death came as a huge shock to them.

Faruk said, “We have lost a true son of Daura,a pillar of honesty,and one of the most selfless leaders Nigeria has ever produced.”

He praised Buhari’s legacy of public service, stating that his contributions to national development, security reforms, and anti-corruption efforts would never be forgotten.

“President Buhari stood for truth, justice, and accountability.

“He lived a modest life and placed national interest above personal gain.

“His passing is a reminder of the great sacrifices he made for this country,” the emir added.

While praying for the repose of his soul, Faruk called on Nigerians to continue upholding the values Buhari stood for — unity, discipline, and service.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, especially Hajiya Aisha Buhari and their children.”

Also,the Chaorman, Daura Local Government, Alhaji Bala Musa, described Buhari as a man of principle who lived a life of simplicity, devotion to Islam, and service to the nation.

“We in Daura feel a deep personal loss. He was our father, our mentor, and a proud son of the soil.

“His humility and honesty will continue to inspire generations,”he said

Musa urged the citizens of Daura and Nigerians at large to remain peaceful and united during this period of mourning.

The National Orientation Agency, NOA, says it will monitor and ensure compliance to the directive for the National Flag to be flown at half-mast for seven days as directed by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This is contained in a press statement signed by Paul Odenyi, Deputy Director, C&M issued to OSUNDAILY NG.

He said the Director General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu and NOA family joins Nigerians in mourning the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, a leader who left an indelible mark on the nation’s political and moral landscape.

He urged the people to comply with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive that the national flag be flown at half-mast for seven (7) days.

The DG said NOA will monitor and ensure compliance across public institutions nationwide.

The Agency also calls on private organisations and citizens to participate in this act of national mourning as a tribute to the former President’s legacy.

The Agency, however, encouraged all citizens to honour the former President not only through this gesture, but by living out the ideals of patriotism, discipline, and service which he championed throughout his life.

The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party NNPP, Suleiman Hashimu Dungurawa, has debunked speculations that the Party’s 2023 Presidential Candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is decamping to ADC.

NNPP claimed that the questions of Kwankwaso joining ADC or any other party is just a miscalculation by politicians who are afraid of the leader of Kwankwasiyya Movements.

Dungurawa, who was speaking to Newsmen in Kano, Monday, hinted that Kwankwaso is not one of those pushover politicians who take decisions without appraising and deeply thinking about their consequences.

“Don’t forget, Kwankwaso today is the Political Leader of Northern Nigeria, and every Politician specifically in this region is looking up to him, so it will be malicious to say he is decamping out for now”.

The Chairman, asked, “why are Nigerian politicians panicking about Kwankwaso’s movements? let them calm down, the times of decision is yet to come, we are people who are too calculative. we don’t just take actions with due consideration”.

While answering questions of the fact that Kwankwaso was seen in places talking to other camps, Suleiman Dungurawa, said, “as a politician who has a PhD in the field, do you expect him to hide himself or dessert people, no way he can talk to anybody but that does not mean anything, is a normal things”.

He said, “those so called followers and supporters of Kwankwaso who are jittery about where he is going, they are pretending followers, but the genuine ones know that Kwankwaso doesn’t take any decisions without talking to them and seeking advice from as low as a ward supporter”.

Talking about the performances of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in the last two years, the NNPP Chairman, said opposition are today overwhelmed by the works of the Governor to the extent that you don’t hear their voices.

“Governor Yusuf’s heavy infrastructural development overwhelmed the opposition they can’t even show their presence anywhere in Kano, that is why we are proud of what he is doing”.
