Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has hailed the Supreme Court judgment which affirmed his election.

Reacting to the verdict, the governor commended the judiciary for its courage and fidelity to justice.

He also thanked the people of Edo State for their unflinching support, patience and faith in democracy.

Okpebholo described the judgment as not merely a legal triumph but a solemn reaffirmation of the sacred mandate freely given to him and the All Progressives Congress, APC, by the people of the state.

He also described it as a signal of the beginning of a fresh chapter rooted in unity, inclusiveness and accelerated development.

The governor also opined that the judgment is not a personal victory but a shared triumph for every Edo citizen, regardless of political, ethnic or religious affiliation.

“This victory renew my commitment to lead with humility, compassion, and accountability. To also deliver tangible benefits that uplift lives and restore confidence in public leadership.

“In the true spirit of statesmanship, I once again extend a sincere olive branch to all my opponents and members of the opposition. The elections are over, the real work of governance and healing must begin.

“I urge political leaders across party lines to rise above division and contribute constructively to the task of building a greater Edo State.

“Constructive criticism and diverse perspectives will always be welcomed, but they must be rooted in a sincere desire to see Edo thrive.

“Edo belongs to all of us. The time has come to set aside our differences, close ranks, and march forward and united in purpose anchored in peace, and driven by a shared vision of progress.

“Let this victory ignite a new era of unity, dialogue, and impact-driven governance. Let history remember this moment as the point when Edo chose collaboration over conflict, vision over vendetta, and service over self,” he said.

Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso has urged the Los Blancos to build a team that plays together as a “unit and in every phase.”

Alonso spoke at his post-match interview after Real Madrid’s 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup semi-final tie on Wednesday night.

OSUNDAILY NG recalls that Fabian Ruiz’s brace and a goal each from Ousmane Dembele and Goncalo Ramos gave the Luis Enrique’s side the victory against the LaLiga giants.

“We need to build a team,” Alonso said after the game at the MetLife Stadium.

“A team that plays together as a unit, in every phase. “That’s the goal,” he added.

The defeat against PSG means Alonso’s side are now out from the competition in the United States.

The 223 Light Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Zuru, has thwarted a large-scale attack by bandits on Ribah town in the Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

It was gathered that the attack, which took place on Wednesday, involved over 400 heavily armed bandits who attempted to overrun the town.

The gun duel was said to have erupted, during which many of the attackers were neutralised.
Director of Security in the Cabinet Office, Alhaji AbdulRahman Zagga, who confirmed the development in Birnin Kebbi, also applauded the bravery and resilience of the Nigerian Army.

Zagga explained that although the attackers initially posed a serious threat due to their large numbers, the superior combat skills and determination of the troops shifted the momentum in favor of the military.

The director also hailed the swift intervention of the Nigerian Air Force, whose fighter jets provided critical air support by bombing fleeing bandits and inflicting heavy casualties.

“Though the gunfire caused initial panic and confusion within the community, the situation has since been brought under control and normalcy fully restored,” Zagga said.

He further stated that the attackers were suspected to be the same group responsible for a recent attack in Niger State.

“They had crossed into Kebbi to launch another assault, which was ultimately foiled, an outcome that underscores the effectiveness of the proactive security measures implemented by Governor Nasir Idris,” he added.

Troops from Dukku Barracks, in a separate incident on the same day, thwarted another attack by Lakurawa bandits in Mera, Augie Local Government Area of the state.

The bandits had reportedly attempted to rustle cattle but were resisted by soldiers, forcing them to retreat.
