For the first time in 33 years and the third time ever, Napoli are the champions of Italy courtesy of a Victor Osimhen goal.
On Thursday night, the Neapolitans earned a crucial 1-1 draw away at Udinese to clinch the Serie A title with five matches to spare.
Napoli’s celebration was delayed over the weekend after Boulaye Dia netted a late equaliser against them.
But the wait ended tonight.
Udinese went upfront on 13 minutes into the match thanks to Sandi Lovric with a shot from 15 yards out. But a second half goal by Osimhen in the 52nd minute salvaged a point for Napoli just like Diego Maradona scored a crucial goal over thirty years ago to secure Napoli’s second league title.
The Neapolitans last won the Scudetto in the 1989/90 season but Osimhen’s goal ensured that Napoli end their decades-long league drought.
Napoli’s last league triumph was greatly inspired by Maradona. This season, Osimhen alongside Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, both with a combined 34 goals and 14 assists between the duo, have successfully followed the steps of the Argentine legend to power the Neapolitans to their latest Scudetto.
