Elder statesman, Ayo Adebanjo has slammed those calling for his resignation as the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere.
OsunDaily News earlier reported that a group of youths, under the aegis of the Yoruba Afenifere Youths Organisation of Nigeria (YAYON), had asked Adebanjo to step down as the leader of the Yoruba organisation.
In a communique released after a press conference held in Lagos on Tuesday, the organisation passed a vote of no confidence in the elder statesman and also condemned the suspension of two national officers of Afenifere by Adebanjo.
But in an interview with The Punch on Tuesday, Adebanjo said the youths asking him to step down as Afenifere leader have allegedly collected money from the President-elect, Bola Tinubu.
Adebanjo also denied claims that he had been working against the Yoruba interest, stressing that he has always been working for the interest of the Yoruba race.
He said, โTheir fathers cannot talk to me, yet they are telling me to step down. If they have gotten some dollars from Tinubu, it is their affair, let them carry on.โ
ย โTinubu himself wonโt talk to me like that. We have been fighting for Yoruba interests before their grandfathers were born. I donโt know them. Everybody wants relevance, they want to have a say thatโs why they are asking me to step down. Who are they? They just gathered them to say I should step down after they had used Fasoranti which couldnโt work.โ
