The Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume has said that he has the capabilities to become the next Senate President but unfortunately he is not financially buoyant enough.
According to Ndume, he has no money to give out hence he cannot enter the race.
The lawmaker stated this during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service.
He alleged that competence is no longer considered for the position as everything is now monetized.
The law maker claimed that the situation is so bad that even individuals who have zero experience on legislative processes have entered the race.
He said, โIf Iโm rich and can share money as was being done presently to get positions in the Senate, with my experience, I tell you I wouldโve become the President of the Senate. There is nothing like considering competence, everything was monetized.
โEven those who knew nothing about the legislative procedures, simply because they have money, they are now in the hot pursuit for the position of Senate President.โ
The Senator lamented that the system was now something else, integrity and competence were pushed to the foreground while any lawmaker who could afford to buy his way, could easily get the number one position in the Upper Legislative Chamber.
