Breaking: ASUU Suspends 8-Month-Old Strike Conditionally

The eight month lingering industrial action of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has suspended conditionally.

The development was confirmed by a member of the unionโ€™s National Executive Committee (NEC) who spoke with Channels TV in the early hours of Friday.

ASUU decided to suspend the strike after members of the union’s NEC held a meeting which started on Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday.

The union had fixed the meeting to decide the next line of action after the Court of Appeal directed it members to resume last week.

Recall that the Court of Appeal ordered ASUU to suspend thestrike before its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to resume work can be heard.

The Chairman of the state chapters and members of the national executive, attended the meeting which was held at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14 this year.

ASUU Vs FG: Court Grants Striking Lecturers Conditional Leave To Appeal

ASUU has been granted leave to appeal the decision of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria delivered on the 21st of September by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja.

Recall that Justice Polycarp Hamman of the National Industrial Court directed ASUU to return to classrooms after eight months of Strike.

ASUU which was not pleased with the ruling had on the 28th of September applied to the Court of Appeal to grant it leave to appeal against the interlocutory order of Justice Polycarp Hamman.

The union also asked for an order staying the execution of the decision of the National Industrial Court pending the hearing and determination of its appeal.
