A yet-to-be-identified group of gunmen have reportedly kidnapped an officer of the Nigeria Police Force in Kwara State.

Reports reaching OsunDaily News on Thursday confirmed that the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Abdulmumini Yusuf, who is attached to the Area Command in Ilorin, was whisked away to an unknown location by the assailants.

Confirming the embarrassing situation, the State Police Commissioner, CP Paul Odama, told newsmen in Ilorin today that the personnel was kidnapped on Tuesday night while on his way home in the Ogidi area of the state capital.

โ€œYes, itโ€™s true, but we are still on it,โ€ Odama told newsmen in Ilorin. Also confirming the incident, the commandโ€™s spokesman, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, said an investigation is ongoing to secure the release of the officer.

Ayayi said the motive of the abduction was still sketchy.

โ€œThe incident, as serious as it is, has not diminished the resolve of the command to protect the lives and property of the citizens,โ€ย the PPRO said.

A resident of the Ogidi community, Jamiu Abdulganiy also told PM News that the abduction of the officer has caused tension in the community as residents wonder why the officer could be kidnapped.

In another news, two people were killed on Wednesday in Katsina State when a group of terrorists invaded Gidan Baushe, Gatakawa village communities of Kankara Local Government Area of the state.

The State Command of the Nigeria Police Force confirmed this in a statement on Thursday through its spokesperson, SP Gambo Isah.

OsunDaily News learnt that the assailants had earlier stormed the communities and abducted no fewer than 18 people. The terrorists according to reports stormed the communities at midnight riding on motorcycles and started shooting sporadically.

Isah explained that the command was informed of the situation and immediately deployed its personnel to the scene to confront the terrorists.
