Former Governor of Kano State and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, stormed Lagos State on Wednesday to expand his political ambition.
OsunDaily News understands that Kwankwaso stormed the Centre of Excellence and marketing hub city yesterday purposely to commission the state chapter Secretariat of the party.
The NNPP Secretariat which is located at Fadeyi Bus Stop, along Ikorodu Road in Lagos reportedly received thousands of supporters cheering the presidential hopeful.
The party members were spotted in reds wearing party caps and hoisting the NNPP’s flags and posters. The crowd, comprising members of the Kwankwasiyya movement are said to have obstructed the free flow of traffic along Ikorodu Road for some hours before dispersion.
While inaugurating the secretariat, Kwankwaso assured the cheering crowd of protection of their interest. The presidential candidate, who expressed joy at the level of their acceptance, urged them to maintain peace and order before, during and after the elections.
In his remark at the event, the NNPP Publicity Secretary, Richard Benson, said the fast-growing party has been receiving a troop of defectors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Benson described the inauguration of the NNPP secretariat in the state as the mark of another new beginning in the politics of Lagos State.
He said: “The huge crowd still gathered even though we informed our members not to come en mass so as not to cause unnecessary traffic gridlock here on the major highway.
“Despite this, the crowd affected the traffic. This is a signal that NNPP is on the ground in Lagos
“We are here to contest elections in 2023 and win and as it stands today, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso will become the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2023.
“Our structures are all over the country and we are going out to win,” the party chieftain noted. OsunDaily News understands that the event had in attendance members of the Kwankwasai group, party chieftains and candidates for the 2023 elections.
Why I Was Absent From PDP Presidential Campaign Flag-Off – Makinde
The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde revealed on Wednesday why he was absent from the presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
OsunDaily News had earlier reported that the main opposition held its presidential campaign in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Monday.
However, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his allies were absent from the event.
The camp of Governor Wike had pulled out of the PDP presidential campaign council to press home its call for the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu to resign.
Governor Wike’s camp had requested Ayu’s resignation from office over northern dominance in key positions in the party.
The aggrieved governors insisted that the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar and the national chairman of the party can not come from the same region.
Makinde when asked on Wednesday by the state house correspondents after the swearing-in of Olukayode Ariwoola as the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN) why he was not at the presidential campaign of the PDP said he needed to be in Oyo rather than Uyo.
The Oyo State Governor said, “I have been busy at home in Oyo state campaigning for everybody. Uyo is not where I need to put the votes together. It is in Oyo; so I stayed in Oyo.”
