The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and his allies were on Monday absent as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) kicked off its presidential campaign.

OsunDaily News reports that PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and many other party chieftains stormed Uyo, Akwa Ibom State today to commence the 2023 presidential campaign properly.

Atiku who was elated with the turn-up at the campaign flag-off promised to rescue Nigeria from insecurity and a bad economy and to unite the northern and southern parts of the country.

However, top party stakeholders, the likes of Governor Wike and his Oyo State counterpart and friend, Seyi Makinde were missing at the occasion in Uyo.

Also absent at the campaign inauguration held at the Nest of Champions International Stadium, Uyo, were the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, Governor Makinde, Abia State’s Governor Okezie Ikpaezu, and Enugu State governor, Ugwuanyi Ifeanyi.

2023: APC Brought Poverty, Hunger, Insecurity On Nigerians โ€“ Atikuย

The presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, said on Monday that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made Nigerians hungry, poor and insecure.

Atiku said despite the ruling party promising Nigerians change when it took over power in 2015, it has performed woefully in the last seven years.

The former Vice President while speaking at the flag-off of the PDP presidential campaign in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom said the APC has brought poverty, insecurity, lack of jobs and disunity into the country, promsing to address these challenges if elected as the next President in 2023.

Atiku said: โ€œNigeria said they wanted change, and they voted for change in 2015. What have we seen? What we have seen is poverty, insecurity, lack of jobs and disunity.

โ€œOur children are no longer going to school. Is that what we want to continue with?

โ€œToday, we have flagged off our campaign to rescue Nigeria from hunger, and poverty and to bring back the unity that we require in this country. Therefore, I want to appeal to all Nigerians by standing today in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, to ask them to vote for PDP.

โ€œIf you vote for PDP, it will be a return to prosperity; it will be a return to unity; there will be no more hunger and there will be security.โ€
