OsunDaily News looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeriaโ€™s national newspapers today Thursday 6th October 2022.

The PUNCH: The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the final list of candidates that will contest the governorship and houses of assembly election in 28 states of the federation in the 2023 elections. In a statement signed on Wednesday by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, the list contained 18 political parties that fielded 837 candidates and their running mates for the 28 governorship elections.


The Guardian: There are strong indications that the Federal Government may have failed in its policy and regulatory direction towards harnessing existing 14,120MW of exploitable hydropower despite the countryโ€™s gross energy deficit.


This Day: President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, said the entire nation owed the military and other sister security agencies a debt of gratitude for walking the talk, as he basked in the euphoria of the safe release of the remaining 23 kidnapped Abuja-Kaduna train passengers held in captivity by Boko Haram terrorists since March 28.


The Nation: The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC), members of the Progressives Governorsโ€™ Forum (PGF) and the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) yesterday resolved to work for the victory of the standard bearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima.


Daily Trust: The Senate on Wednesday rejected the recommendation of its committee to slash the oil subsidy fund in 2023 from N3.6 trillion to N1.7trn and upheld a N8.4trn borrowing plan just as President Muhammadu Buhari will present N19.76trn 2023 Appropriations bill to the joint session of the National Assembly on Friday.
