The House of Representatives candidate for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2, Lere Olayinka has disclosed that the gladiators in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently talking out issues in order to resolve the numerous crisis plaguing the party.

According to Olayinka who was a southwest PDP spokesperson, political parties are about crisis and crisis resolution and it is normal, so crisis within the PDP is not an exception.

He gave assurance that discussions are underway to resolve the party’s crisis, noting that the party has faced greater issues and certainly this one too will be settled.

He maintained that politics is about people protecting their interests and that the moment people are assured that their interests are adequately taken care of, all these issues will fizzle out.

The former regional spokesman in a Punch Newspaper interview, mentioned that PDP wasn’t the only political party with crisis and that he is aware the  All Progressive Congress’s (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu wrote a letter to the party’s presidential candidate, (Bola Tinubu) complaining about the membership of the campaign council.

Also “APC members like former House of Representatives Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal are raising issues within the same APC, criticising the Muslim-Muslim ticket,” he added.

Olayinka, therefore, believes there are issues in all political parties, as “I read recently that the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate was suspended from the party.”

Ayu Should Go But Not Be Removed

In the face of the heat from Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State insisting on the removal of the National Chairman of the Party, Iyorchia Ayu, he opined that for him Ayu should go in the interest of balancing.

But then there are two sides to a coin and nobody is saying Ayu should be removed, saying somebody should resign is different from saying he should be removed

“Resign in the interest of balance, unity, and the interest of peace in the party. If I were to be in his shoes, I will weigh my options and ask myself, if I resign, will it increase the chances of the party in the election? If my resignation will enhance the chances of the party in the election, I will not wait a second before resigning,” he maintained.

Citing that if people asked him to drop his House of Representatives ticket for an easy win of the presidential election, then he won’t hesitate.

Olayinka advised electorates to consider antecedents of both political parties and their candidates to make informed choices.
