The Chairman of the Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Sunday Bisi, held a world press conference today, expressing grave concerns about the escalating security situation in the state. The briefing drew attention to what Bisi described as attempts by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to destabilize the state through orchestrated violence in collaboration with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the press conference, Bisi accused Egbetokun of facilitating unrest by deploying Special Forces to assist alleged miscreants in local government areas. He characterized these actions as a “blatant coup” against the democratically elected Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, asserting that Egbetokun’s maneuvers directly contravene Adelekeโs directives aimed at restoring peace.
“The world must be alerted to this disturbing situation, and we ask that it holds Mr. Egbetokun accountable should there be any threats to the life of our Governor,” Bisi stated, insisting that the recent outbreak of violence was part of a larger strategy by the APC, which has been seeking to regain power since losing the governorship election in 2022.
Bisi continued to highlight the governor’s ongoing discussions with Egbetokun, noting that those talks were intended to promote stability following violent encounters that recently resulted in the deaths of nearly ten residents. He expressed anger over Egbetokunโs disregard for established protocols concerning local government elections and security procedures.
Criticizing the opposition’s desperation, Bisi claimed that Egbetokun seems intent on sabotaging the upcoming local government elections scheduled for February 22, 2025. “We are determined that this election will proceed as planned, regardless of the tactics used by the APC and their affiliates,โ he asserted.
The PDP chairman commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for its legal compliance in arranging the elections, emphasizing that the APC’s failure to disrupt the process had led to increasing desperation and chaos in the region.
In closing, Bisi urged citizens to remain vigilant and resilient, reaffirming that the PDP stands united against any intimidation tactics. He encouraged the electorate to participate actively in the forthcoming elections, which he argues are legally sanctioned and in alignment with recent judicial rulings.
The press conference concluded with Bisi promising further updates on the security situation in Osun State and extending a hand to the media for continued engagement.
