Hon. Sunday Olufemi Oroniyi, the Osun State Commissioner for Water Resources, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State to cease actions that undermine peace and stability in the state.
In a statement released to the media, Hon. Oroniyi commended the proactive leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke for his decisive response to the recent violent incidents in Osun State, which were allegedly orchestrated by APC stakeholders with the intent of attacking members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Hon. Oroniyi further emphasized that no court has ordered the reinstatement of the sacked Yes/No Chairmen and councillors, as falsely claimed by the APC. He condemned the partyโs attempts to destabilize the peace in Osun State and reiterated that the court has not granted any such relief to the APC.
The Commissioner expressed deep concern over the violent attacks on innocent citizens by APC thugs, leading to deaths and severe injuries. He particularly pointed to incidents in his constituency, Ayiwola Constituency in Ola-Oluwa Local Government Area, where APC leaders allegedly mobilized thugs to attack PDP members. Two people tragically lost their lives, while others were critically injured.
โI am deeply saddened by the tragic events in my constituency, and I assure the people of Ola-Oluwa Local Government that those responsible will be brought to justice. I will ensure that justice prevails and that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions,โ he said.
Hon. Sunday Oroniyi also praised the efforts of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Osun State Command, urging them to ensure that all those involved in these violent acts are swiftly apprehended and made to face the law.
In his statement, Hon. Oroniyi appealed to the President of Nigeria, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to call on the former Governor of Osun State, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, to refrain from actions that continue to disrupt the peace of the statement.
He also called on the people of Osun State to come out in large numbers to cast their votes for the respective candidates in the upcoming Local Government elections scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025.
In conclusion, Hon. Sunday Oroniyi extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in these tragic incidents, especially those from the Ola-Oluwa Local Government Area and the PDP family. He prayed for Godโs comfort for the bereaved families.
