The immediate past National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Alex Ogbonnia, has expressed joy over the release and return of Beatrice Ekweremadu to Nigeria.
Ogbonnia commended the resilience of the Ekweremadu family, describing Senator Ike Ekweremadu, her husband, as a nation builder who made remarkable contributions to the development of Enugu West and Enugu State during his time in the Senate.
OsunDailyNG understands that Ekweremadu was sentenced to six years in a UK prison for her involvement in an organ trafficking case alongside her husband.
Her release marks an emotional chapter for the family, with reports confirming her return to Nigeria on Tuesday. She is currently in Abuja.
Ogbonnia also used the occasion to highlight Senator Ekweremadu’s achievements during his tenure as Deputy Senate President.
In his reaction, he said, “I want to thank God for His grace upon Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife. It’s jubilation galore across Enugu State because they used their opportunities to touch lives, showcasing the quality they possess.
“The husband, in particular, represented the people of Enugu West immeasurably and impacted Enugu State as a whole. We pray that in no distant time, he will return to Nigeria to continue his good work.”
